National Library of Australia

The National Library of Australia is the custodian of the nation's documentary heritage. It is the country's largest library and its leading research and reference library. As the custodian of the nation's recorded history, the National Library is often called the 'treasure house of the nation'.

The Library has considerable collections of Australiana, general, overseas and rare book materials, and world-class collections of Asian materials.

Books, journals, newsletters, posters, maps and manuscripts held in the Library's collection can be found by searching the online catalogue.

The Library also has an active program of changing exhibitions, film screenings, education events and behind-the-scenes tours. Visitor facilities include the bookshop, licensed restaurant, bistro and internet café.

The Library was designed by Bunning & Madden in association with T E O'Mahoney and opened in 1968.
