National Gallery of Australia

The National Gallery of Australia houses the national collection of art. Designed by Edwards, Torzillo and Briggs, the Gallery opened in 1982.

The Gallery has an exciting exhibition program including major international travelling exhibitions and masterpieces of Australian art. The collection is particularly well known for its extensive survey of Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Asian art.

Facilities include a shop, brasserie and outdoor restaurant. The Gallery aims to enhance our understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts and to provide access to works of art information, locally, nationally and internationally.

The outdoor Sculpture Garden can be accessed from either the building or from the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore. A Children's Gallery and art trail - make art fun for children of all ages.

A variety of free guided tours are available daily. The National Gallery is open from 10am to 5pm daily (except Christmas Day and Good Friday). Admission is free.
