High Court of Australia
The High Court of Australia is the highest court in the Australian judicial system.
It is located in the Parliamentary Triangle on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin next to the National Gallery of Australia and the International Flag Display.
The building, designed by Edwards, Madigan, Torzillo and Briggs Pty Ltd, is a unique structure. Forty metres tall and constructed mainly of concrete and glass, it has four major functional elements: a large public hall, three courtrooms, an administrative wing, and Justices' chambers. Court Attendants are on hand to explain the operation of the Court, its history, and to guide you through this spectacular building.
The building is surrounded by parkland. Many visitors take their lunch and enjoy it on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin or enjoy a break in the High Court cafeteria.
The building is open to the public from 9:45am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, except public holidays. The cafeteria is open from 9:45am to 4:15pm during the week.
