Todd Rohl
Managing Director of Planning and Urban Design
The National Capital Authority's Managing Director of Planning and Urban Design, Todd Rohl, brings youth, enthusiasm and 13 years experience to the role.
After ten months, Todd Rohl, 36, is still excited by his move to Canberra and the role which brought him here, which he rates as one of the top planning jobs in Australia.
'I am passionate about planning and it is an honour to be part of the team that will assist the national capital to realise its full potential as outlined in our blueprint for the future in the award-winning Griffin Legacy,' Mr Rohl said.
'Creating an easily identifiable central national area with a vibrant heart for all Australians is no small task,' claims Todd. 'Canberra doesn't deserve the bad wrap that it gets, but there is a way to go before Canberra is a 24-hour city.'
Todd is part of the team that will see the city connected to the lake, create Constitution Avenue as a vibrant, mixed-use boulevard and invigorate City Hill to reflect the importance of the location within the capital.
Todd believes that the creation of a colourful and quality environment is an integral part of attracting visitors and residents. His vision includes creating a planning framework that allows for new and exciting developments to contribute to life in the capital.
'Canberra has been given a wonderful opportunity to lead the country in planning. The original plan by Walter Burley Griffin for the city was far-sighted. Now is the time to honour his legacy and address the future that will see Canberra heralded as one of the world's great cities,' said Todd.
Todd's career highlights have included state and national planning awards and most recently working with the Logan City Council who created the largest IKEA store in the southern hemisphere.
Todd believes one of the keys to his role is to provide design and planning leadership. As part of this he is an adjunct lecturer on planning issues at Queensland's James Cook University.
