Heritage Study

The National Capital Authority has engaged Jennifer Hill of Architectural Projects Pty Ltd to undertake a heritage assessment of the Albert Hall precinct. Ms Hill is a member of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, President of the Art Deco Society NSW, Vice Chair of Docomomo Australia, past member of the RAIA Conservation Committee and recipient of numerous awards.

The heritage study will consider the natural, indigenous and historic heritage of the Albert Hall precinct in the context of pre-European heritage to post 1980’s with the (Hyatt) Hotel Canberra extensions and Lennox Gardens upgrade. The study will also examine the strategic vision for the site.

The heritage assessment will involve consultation with key stakeholders, review of existing heritage studies and documentation, and the preparation of a report identifying the values of the existing heritage listed places and the precinct beyond the formally listed heritage sites of the (Hyatt) Hotel Canberra, the Albert Hall, and the Croquet Club.  The wider precinct including Commonwealth Avenue, Lennox Gardens and the adjacent lake shores will be examined. Preliminary findings of the heritage assessment will be used to inform the proposed workshop on heritage.
