            <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>21 December 2012</strong></p>
<p>The Captain Cook Memorial Jet is back in operation.</p>
<p>The jet has not operated since Monday following a fault with an electronic valve.</p>
<p>The Captain Cook Memorial Jet is located in Lake Burley Griffin in front of the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point. It operates from 2.00pm to 4.00pm each day.</p>]]></description>

<p>What is the perfect way to finish a summer's day in Canberra?</p>
<p>According to Gary Rake, Chief Executive of the NCA, the answer is:</p>
<p>'Take the family and a picnic along to Kings Park and enjoy the lyrical music of the National Carillon by the lake.'</p>
<p>Recitals will be performed each Tuesday evening from 7pm to 8pm during January, commencing New Year's Day.</p>

<p>During the daytime, listen to recitals every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at the National Carillon from 12.30pm to 1.20pm while walking around the lake or relaxing in Kings Park.</p>
<p>The National Carillon is proudly supported by Colliers International.</p>

            <title>Canberra to Capitalise on Mobile Technology</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>21 December 2012</strong></p>
<p>The Canberra Guide, a smartphone app and mobile website for the National Capital, was jointly released today by Senator Kate Lundy and Minister Andrew Barr MLA.</p>
<p>Developed in collaboration between the National Capital Authority, ACT Government and the National Capital Attractions Association, The Canberra Guide allows tourists to plan their visit to the National Capital using a smartphone, tablet or other mobile device.</p>
<p>ACT Tourism and Events Minister, Andrew Barr, said the Canberra Guide will improve the experience of visitors to Canberra.</p>
<p>'The Canberra Guide is a useful way Canberrans and visitors alike will be able to locate and access information about major attractions and events taking place across the city,' Minister Barr said.</p>
<p>'The release of the smartphone app and mobile website has been timed to coincide with the start of Canberra's Centenary celebrations when an increased number of tourists are expected to visit the capital, and will help ensure they don't miss out on any of the fantastic activities and events that are planned for the city next year.'</p>
<p>Senator Kate Lundy said government must keep pace with technology to ensure it is communicating effectively.</p>
<p>'Smartphones are predicted to outnumber desktops in Australia next year,' Senator Lundy said.</p>
<p>'Australians are increasingly using smartphones to plan their visits and discover what events are taking place.</p>
<p>'The Canberra Guide will also explain the important features of Canberra, as our National Capital.'</p>
<p>Key features of the app include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Attractions searchable by proximity, alphabetical listing, map or category (arts, centenary, family, gallery, heritage, museum, outdoors, science, shopping, sports)</li>
<li>Every event listed on the Centenary of Canberra program available</li>
<li>30 minute tour suggestions for each attraction</li>
<li>Location of facilities in Canberra, such as playgrounds, toilets, airports etc.</li>
<li>Integration with social media</li>
</ul>
<p>The Canberra Guide was developed by The Mark Agency for $100,000. This cost was shared between the National Capital Authority, ACT Tourism, Centenary of Canberra and members of the National Capital Attractions Association.</p>

<p>The Canberra Guide app is available for download on Google Play. It will also be available in the App Store in the coming weeks.</p>]]></description>
