Weather permitting, the National Capital Authority will conduct a control burn at the Stirling Ridge Conservation Management Area on Saturday.
The burn will be undertaken in the southern corner of Stirling Ridge, near Empire Circuit and Forster Crescent in Yarralumla.
The burn is designed to reduce fire fuel loads. This burn is to create strategic fuel reduced areas where fire-fighters can safely fight wildfires if they occur in this area.
The control burn will cause some smoke in the area. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of smoke.
Experienced Rural Fire Service fire-fighters will conduct the burning operation from 10:00am until 5:00pm on Saturday 30 March 2013.
The ACT Health Directorate advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.
People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
