|Have Your Say on Proposed Amendments to National Capital Plan|
2 November 2012
The National Capital Authority will release three proposed amendments to the National Capital Plan tomorrow for community comment.
The proposed amendments include:
The Draft Amendment 78 reduces the area available for development on Stirling Ridge by adjusting land use boundaries to permit diplomatic use on land to the southwest of Stirling Ridge, retaining and refining the reservation of Attunga Point as a potential site for a future Prime Minister's Lodge and changing the permitted land use of the remaining portions from 'National Capital Use' to 'Open Space' in recognition of high ecological values. Overall, the Draft Amendment 78 will reduce the development capacity of Stirling Ridge.
Draft Amendment 79 proposes to remove references to a pedestrian bridge connecting the Acton Peninsula to the Parliamentary Zone at Lennox Gardens, Yarralumla across the West Basin of Lake Burley Griffin.
The purpose of Draft Amendment 80 is to remove the development reservation at Yarramundi Reach and change the land use policy to more appropriately reflect the development capacity of the site. It will assist in protecting the natural and cultural heritage values of Yarramundi Reach by removing the assumption the land is reserved for future use.
The draft amendments will be available from Saturday 3 November on the NCA's consultation website or can be viewed at the National Capital Authority offices.
Public information sessions will be held on:
Submissions close at close of business on Friday 14 December. Comments will be assessed before a decision is made on the proposed Draft Amendment.
Following consultation, the draft amendment requires the approval of the Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government. If it is approved it is subject to consideration by both houses of the Australian Parliament for 15 sitting days.
