Enjoy the Lake - Interactive Map Print Write e-mail

Lake Burley Griffin is Canberra's centrepiece. The lake covers 664 hectares with a shoreline of 40.5 kilometres. There are two accessible islands within the lake. Aspen Island (the site of the National Carillon) is located in Central Basin and Springbank Island is located in West Basin.The lake and surrounding areas are used for a wide range of recreational activities. The lake is a busy waterway with rowing, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, dragon boating, fishing, model boating and paddle boating being just some of the activities available. Surrounding the lake there are lovely parks for picnics, areas for swimming, as well as walking tracks and cycling paths.

Around the lake there are services such as boat and bike hire, lake cruises and ferry services. Plus if you enjoy fine food, then there are also cafés and restaurants where you can relax and take in the view.
