Weekly Lake Update/ReportBacterial levels are normal. The Captain Cook Memorial Jet will be operational.There are no warning signs as blue-green algae levels have abated to well below notification levels. Monitoring will recommence in early Spring. Lake Burley Griffin Areas MapThe NCA provides weekly updates on the water quality of the lake. This information is available on Friday each week from mid October to end of March, when the use of the Lake is expected to be high. Due to unexpected high concentrations of Blue-Green Algae on Lake Burley Griffin, the water testing has been extended until Algae levels reach normal levels. The NCA manages Lake Burley Griffin water quality based on the guidelines issued by ACT Health. Background InformationSwimming or primary contact recreational activities are generally encouraged in the western sections of the Lake. The Lake has four specified swimming areas - Black Mountain Swimming Area, Weston Park (west) Swimming Area, Weston Park (east) Swimming Area, and Yarralumla Swimming Area. Weekly samples, obtained in these swimming sites, are tested and reported in accordance with the approved Australian Water Quality Guidelines. The users of the Lake are advised to exercise caution as recent rain may have brought debris and altered the water quality conditions. Water quality in the Lake is subject to environmental variations in the lake itself and in its catchments. The National Capital Authority provides weekly updates on the water quality of Lake Burley Griffin on its website. This information is usually available on Friday each week. When the situation is warranted, due to changes in water quality conditions, additional reports are listed on the web site. |
