Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) extends the right of every person to access information in the possession of the Government of the Commonwealth.
This right of access is generally given to documents rather than information. Agencies are not required to research information - the obligation is to provide only existing documents.
Requests for publicly available information (such as that available in Libraries etc) relating to the National Capital for the purposes of education, research or other uses should not be made under the FOI Act. Please refer these inquiries to our information centre.
