Boating and Sailing
Lake Burley Griffin is a popular venue for water sports, in particular, sailing, rowing, sailboarding and canoeing. Powered boats require a permit to use Lake Burley Griffin, however, non-powered crafts do not. For more information on obtaining permits visit the National Capital Authority website.
The Lake has a number of areas which are perfect for boating. These include:
- a sailing course in West Lake;
- a rowing course in Yarramundi Reach marked by buoy lines; and
- canoe training in the sheltered waters of Molonglo Reach.
There are a number of boating clubs and hire outlets located around the lake. For more information see the section on Services around Lake Burley Griffin.
