Anzac Parade Reconstruction

Anzac Parade will undergo a full depth road reconstruction over the next three years by the Australian Government. The work will be completed in three separate stages. Each stage will occur from November to the following April.

This is the first major restoration of Anzac Parade since it was constructed in the 1960s. The existing road is dilapidated and needs to be replaced. This work is essential and every measure has been taken to minimise its impact.

Stage One

The National Capital Authority will undertake the first stage of work from 12 November 2008 to 24 April 2009, with the road on the southbound (east) lanes of Anzac Parade being replaced.

The work is programmed to be conducted during the day, from 7am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturday. Traffic will be slowed in the area for the duration of the works.

12 to 30 November 2008

Partial road (lane) closures will occur on the parade between 12 and 30 November 2008.

December 2008 to April 2009

Full closure of the parade's southbound lanes, between Fairbairn Avenue and Constitution Avenue, is programmed from December 2008 through to April 2009.

During full closure of the southbound lanes, vehicles will be redirected via a two-way traffic arrangement on the parade's northbound lanes. Once implemented, traffic redirection will be 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the works are complete.

Pedestrian/Cycling Access

Pedestrians and cyclists will not be able to cross the parade during construction, and will be redirected to cross Anzac Parade at either Limestone/Fairbairn Avenue or Constitution Avenue.

Motorists

To minimise delays, motorists are encouraged to:

ACTION Bus route

As a result of the reconstruction of Anzac Parade the ACTION bus services that currently cross Blamey Crescent/Currong Street will be rerouted via Anzac Park East and West.

Temporary Parking Changes

From 12 November 2008 until 24 April 2009 parking arrangements on Anzac Park East and West will be temporarily changed to facilitate the temporary bus route.

The Anzac Parade side of Anzac Park East and West will be designated a ‘No Stopping’ zone.

The temporary parking arrangements are to ensure safe clearances for bus services passing along the road.

Site Compound

A site compound will be erected in the verge between Gullett Street and Fairbairn Avenue while the Anzac Parade road works take place. The compound will be used to store equipment and materials related to the construction works and to store gravel which is to be recycled as part of the road reconstruction.
