Overview
The National Capital Authority (the NCA) is the Commonwealth agency responsible for looking after the National Capital aspects of Canberra.
The NCA administers and reviews the National Capital Plan - the object of which is to ensure that Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory are planned and developed in accordance with their national significance. It recommends and carries out works that maintain or enhance the character of the National Capital and is responsible for fostering an awareness of the National Capital. On behalf of the Commonwealth, the NCA manages National Land, including National Memorials.
The NCA comprises the Chairman, the Chief Executive and three members appointed by the Governor General.
Its offices are located in D Wing of the Treasury Building, King Edward Terrace, Parkes ACT 2600. The NCA also operates the National Capital Exhibition located at Regatta Point, Blundells Cottage and the National Carillon, both located on Wendouree Drive in Kings Park.
The National Capital Authority is a Statutory Authority and the Chief Executive has the powers to employ staff under the Public Service Act.
